Censored Australian version of Fallout 3 to ship worldwide

Bad, bad move Bethesda.

Bethesda's Peter Hines has announced that the censored version of Fallout 3 which was chewed up and dissected by the famously uptight Australian censor board will be the version of the game that will be shipped worldwide.

"We want to make sure folks understand that the Australian version of Fallout 3 is identical to both the UK and North American versions in every way, on every platform," Hines told Edge Magazine, "An issue was raised concerning references to real world, proscribed drugs in the game, and we subsequently removed those references and replaced them with fictional names."

"To avoid confusion among people in different territories, we decided to make those substitutions in all versions of the game, in all territories."

Just cause... you know... an adult rated game might convince kids to take real drugs, and all that.

It might not be game-breaking, but its still a horrible patronising move.

Anyone else want to wipe Australia's censor boards from existence?
Seriously someone get me over here and I'll take the lot of them out, uptight bastards.

This kinda thing always pisses me of even if it's just little things, why the **** should we bow to the uptight short sightedness of other countries?

I agree that deciding to use the same verison worldwhite is short-sighted. Although I personally get why the Aussie censorship is so extreme, at least the rest of the world shouldn't be affected by one region. In fact, it makes no sense whatsoever. There a other censor boards out there--why decide to use the restrictions of this particular, in keeping with the rather stupid idea of following a single censorship board?

Properly as its cheaper to print one version around the world , but I would like the game they want to be released, not a censored version for one region

I knew Mike Atkinson was the ruination of video games everywhere. What a c***

Snake, Labor front bencher Mike Atkinson of the SA government is who you need to take out. He blocked the creation of an R rating for video games last time it went to commitee, all other attorney generals were in favour.

Most of you are taking it way too hard. Basically they're changing the name Morphine to Med-X. There's probably others, but by far it's not really censoring. I for one, don't think this changes anything on the game.

It's not the fact of WHAT they are cencoring, more the fact they feel the need to baby the gamers of this day and age.
Especially when there are some parts of the world, STILL GETTING the full version.
It's the reasoning beind the decision, not the decision itself.
