16 person multiplayer rumoured for Grand Theft Auto IV

It isn't news that Grand Theft Auto IV will feature multiplayer content; Rockstar commented back in April that GTAIV would feature <i>some</i> form a multiplayer component. Beyond that announcement though, all has been quiet from the developer, but news through the grapevine recently has spread some light on what's in store for gamers in the next installment.
At the PlayStation Holiday Preview Event in Toronto, Canada recently, gaming site GamingExcellence cornered "Rockstar's man on the scene." I.E. a nameless representive who speaks on the company's behalf. The Rockstar rep reportedly informed the site that Rockstar "were considering the possibility of having an open world completely unlocked from the start of the game." He also mentioned that the developer "is aiming for at least 16 simultaneous players [for multiplayer], with more than just the usual deathmatch mode."
This is far from a confirmation of such information though, and shouldn't be taken as set-in-stone until such time as the developer opens up public. The developer is "considering" the feature, which means that potentially it might not make it into the final game, or even attempted to be

It's interesting to see so many games feature multiplayer options these days. No doubt, this will only add to the big hype surrounding this game. I wonder what "with more than the usual death mode" means? |
