Xbox 360 sells well in Japan. Reality implodes!

And now for the final instalment of our epic trilogy.

Regulars will recall the two recent stories concerning Tales of Vesperia, a 360 exclusive, and how the title has performed exceedingly well in a country whose adversity to the Xbox 360 is well documented.

It seems like the game's surprising popularity has had a knock-on effect to hardware sales; for probably the first time ever, the Xbox 360 has actually outside the PlayStation brand in Japan.

Data for week ending August 10. Thanks, Media Create.

* Nintendo DS - 60,434
* PSP - 58,501
* Wii - 38,506
* Xbox 360 - 24,962
* PlayStation 3 - 9,673
* PlayStation 2- 8,503

It looks like signing on an RPG exclusive wasn't the stupidest idea for Microsoft after all.

And with a number of exclusive RPGs from prolific developers due out for the 360 in the coming months, the console war in Japan just got a lot more interesting.

I wonder how many of those PSP's were used with the camera attachment on the subways? :P

How dare it! :lol:

You gotta hand it to MS right now; they've obviously made a smart move. They knew what would work and they went for it, and are being rewarded for it. Congrats for them.

Haha. WOW. Maybe their NPD figures will surpass the PS3 for the first time this year in August. If Japan has any say in it it, I'd say they will.

It had to happen eventually, MS are just too good at business not to break through at some point.
