Apparently Nintendo's innovation and creation has paid off. I wasn't terribly surprised at the results but still it's good to hear that they are having such success. I hope this will encourage future consoles to emulate such successes as the DS and the Wii. I still think Wii is a funny name though. xD |

You and the rest of the world. *laughs* Sadly, a year on, my flatmate still thinks they're funny... -_- Anyway, this doesn't surprise me. Only problem is, at this rate, it's going to reach a saturation point in sales a lot sooner than most other consoles have... and what do you do once every who can own one does own one? |

Collapse, and send the industry into economic crisis. Look at Ford, and the Model T. However, I don't think that's going to happen. Nintendo will grow ever rich becuase their console is family-friendly, and then slowly fade back to their normal levels because there's no decent games for it. | |||

Still not sure that a motion sencing slightly upgraded gamecube can be anything other than half way between this gen and the last.... And if people don't hurry up and take advantage of nitendos Innovation, I'm going to assume it was all just another word for gimmick. Me? Cynical? |

It's something funky that was aimed at everyone to show that everyone can play games, even if they are little silly ones. Same with the DS, though the Ds might have some really good in-depth games, they are few and far between. Once everyone has either got one, or gotten bored, whats going to happen then? |

Like everyone's said: What happens when they reach market saturation? The Wii and the DS are new kinds of games, involving touch and whole body movement, which hasn't been explored in the past as well as it is now; how many of these games have replay value a year from now? Two years from now? How long will people play Wii Sports? I for one still play PS1 games, they've held up over time... And where will Nintendo go from here? |

Look, the PS2 has sold something on the order of 110 million units worldwide, right? And, I understand where you're coming from, but I'm not so certain they're anywhere near the saturation point just yet. Still another 80 million or so to go before that point. I think what will happen is that the Wii will never reach the installed base the PS2 enjoys. Why do I say this? Because sooner or later, the novelty of the Wii control scheme will wear off, and Nintendo has only a small handful of games for the system that are even worth playing. The PS2, despite being as old a system as it is, still has a devastatingly good library of games, with more being produced every month. Unless Nintendo cracks down and curbs all of the crap titles being "developed" (I use that word loosely when speaking of Wii titles) for the Wii, I think the they can expect maybe another year to 18 months of sales before it runs out of steam. It is, after all, about the games. That's what's keeping the PS2 going strong, and it's what will hurt the Wii longterm. That is, unless, Nintendo changes course immediately and starts taking some pride in which games makes it onto the console. For every Metroid 3 or Twilight Princess, you have twenty Ant Bullys, Meet the Robinsons, or any number of other kiddie movie tie in crap games. Does anyone remember the Nintendo Seal of Quality? Whatever happened to that? I'd like to have my Wii purchase justified one of these years. Well, at least I can look forward to Okami, but that's not even a Wii title orginally. Where did I see that game before? Hmmmm...oh yes, that's right...on the PS FREAKING 2!! You shouldn't have to raid the quality titles from another system. You should take some effing pride in what's coming out for your own. Wake up, Nintendo!! |
