Wii Sold Out, But Wii Have A Problem

Relevant Consoles: : Wii
Our sad love for bad Wii inspired news titles aside, we have some good news on Nintendo's part. Since its launch in America on the 19th of November, the Wii has so far managed to sell almost its entire batch of initial consoles, an unprecedented 600,000 units.

"Even with sales already in excess of 600,000 units, demand continues to exceed supply, as it's clear this is one of the 'gotta-have' products for the holiday season," said Nintendo Of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. "We've shipped retailers several times the amount of hardware the other company was able to deliver for its launch around the same time – and we still sold out. Given the inclusive nature of Wii gameplay, we're seeing this new form of video gaming is already a huge hit with gamers and newcomers alike. It continues to be a phenomenal launch."

Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess was the (not surprisingly) biggest seller for the machine, selling over 454,000 since launch, a console to game ratio of about 3:1, one of the highest recorded to date.

Of course, the complaints have been coming in fast, but for once they don't have anything to do with the hardware or software. Many owners have been complaining about injuries suffered during the use of the machine, as well are regular pains and aches during overuse. NOA communications chief Perrin Kaplan felt the need to state the obvious; "If people are finding themselves sore, they may need to exercise more".

Video Game Chat suggests this to Wii users: Don't fling yourself across the room so much. Sitting on the sofa will suffice in most cases.

Curious of how far the damage is extending? Go and check out www.wiihaveaproblem.com , which chronicles the lethal legacy of violence and damage that the Wii is leaving in its path, in its quest to dominate our sitting rooms...
