Wii Have Another Reason For You To Live In NYC

Yet another reason you all might want to live in New York City. Nintendo, as we know, is gearing up for the November 19th launch date for the Wii. The hype machine is in full force. And, more importantly, the Toys "R" Us in Times Square of New York City will be the first place in the world that the Wii will be sold.

Now, if that wasn't exciting enough to know that us here in NYC will be the first people in the world to have our Nintendo Wii's and, hence, making us the envy of the rest of the world, we also come to find that someone very special will be here in NYC handing out the Wii's personally. That's right, boys and girls. Reffie Fils-Aime, the president of Nintendo America, is going to personally hand to you, the starry-eyed consumer, your very own Nintendo Wii.

Now, for those of you who can't get to NYC for this very momentous and important midnight event, there is at least one more very exciting place to go in which to get your Wii. The GameStop in Universal CityWalk, Los Angeles is also hosting an official midnight event for the launch of the Wii. Sure, you don't get the president and you also don't get front page coverage of being the first person in the entire world to get their Wii, but it is still pretty exciting.

Certainly the lines will be starting by the end of next week to get ready for this momentous occasion. It is like winning a golden ticket and getting a tour of the chocolate factory except, instead, you get to be the envy of the world by being the first one tearing into your packaging and hoarding the game close to your bosom with a caress for "your preciousss".

Certainly you will still somehow be able to get your grubby little hands on a copy, right? Even Wal-Mart, marketing giant, is trying to tantalize the world with selling something called the Wii Customer's Choice Bundle for $533.56 to early birds as of yesterday. Thought, by sometime in the afternoon, even that was sold out.

Still worried? Don't. Nintendo released a statement saying that 4 million Nintendo Wii's would be available for the before Christmas rush. So, no worries if you aren't in NYC on the very night of release, don't have your pre-order, or haven't been to a Wal-Mart recently. There should still be a copy or two out there somewhere. You might just have to look a little harder for it.

Erm, Nintendo is doing a Wii promotion tour around the UK and Ireland, if you're that desperate to play it before (or shortly after) launch. o:

One of my buddies is supposed to be going to that "Big Toys for Big Boys" (UGH! Horrid name!) convention. If I'm lucky, he may have a few pictures or videos from it to throw up here in the next few days.

On that note, I want to move to New York.

New York is awesome. Give me an idea of how many of you want to move here and I'll buy the house! Everyone gets a room and I promise to create some awesome baked goodness at least once a week!

On that note, if I'm not dying for word count, I promise to try and go to the prerelease party and maybe even get an interview with a few people. Maybe even the person to get the first gold ticke-er....I mean...buy the first Wii!

Cheer me on if this is news you would like to see me cover.

I think that's a given.

Then my goal is 45,000 words before the 18th and then I will happily jog to Toys R Us and keep someone prodding me to keep me awake. I will bring a camera, take pictures and movies. If there are any other requests, let me know.

Update: I don't think I will be able to do the Wii coverage here in NYC, but I promise I will try. Or have a friend do it for me. I'm just not up to it.
