Sony Deep Sixes Sixaxis

With the much awaited and shortly forthcoming arrival of the DualShock 3 controller, Sony has decided to cease production of the feather light, motion sensing Sixaxis controller.

Sony expects the remaining Sixaxis units to be gone from store shelves by the summer. Honestly, I thought the Sixaxis had some gameplay potential, but apparently it isn't enough, in Sony's opinion, to warrant its continued production.

Man, and I was so looking forward to Lair II. *l*

To the best of my knowledge, the Dual Shock 3 will still have tilt sensitivity (half the console's back catalogue would be defunct if it didn't), so I'm guessing they're just getting rid of the "old" models, with plans of making Dual Shock 3 standard.

yeah... my dualshock3 still senses motion. The dualshock3's also say SIXAXIS on them still.

haha don't worry .... Lair 2 willl rumble with the best of them, or at least deathrattle pretty well like the first.

I have still yet to play Lair, infact I have been warned not to touch it by many people. Is it worth a sequal?

And as for the news, it's no real suprise. They would of used the DualShock3 in the first place if they could.

Im going to play lair.
When I get a PS3.

I do doubt that sony will remove the sixaxis, generally because it's been so popular, and people enjoy waving thier controllers around like idiots.
I mean hell, Look at the wii. xD

This is what I have to say about Lair:

Graphically... it was Decent. I believe it supported 1080p.. but it wasn't the BEST in terms of visuals.. but the flying LOOKED NICE.

Gameplay... Clunky at best... you are constantly forced to make sharp turns with the sixaxis and the calibrations weren't up to par to let you do this effectively.. I would have opted for an analog joystick controll.... ALSO many of the levels were spliced up by terrible cut-scenes instead of letting you do it yourself. EXAPLE: picking up a victim and dropping them off ... you fly toward the victim... then a cut scene shows you pick them up... then you fly to where they need to go... then a cut scene shows you drop them off.. WTF???

I remember Lair being one of the first games on the PS3 to be shown, and they probably didnt change it much from that.

I think it was probably due to problems with callibrating the controls, it was stupidly delayed but doesn't appear to of changed much in the time since.

By the way, anyone in the UK got an opinion of the game, as I read that part the reason we got it so late was that they were attempting to fix some of the problems told them by those in the US.

No, it's one of the most frustratingly difficult game I've ever played due to the controller setup. You'll find yourself fighting the controls rather than the clunky AI.

I've got one of the new DS3s. These things are heavy as hell compared to the SIXAXIS which feels like nothing.
