Sony are in the Christmas spirit this week it seems, providing firmware updates for both PS3 and PSP owners. In this article, we look at the new 3.80 firmware update for the PSP, and take a look at the new PSP Radio feature

Thanks to the latest firmware update to the PlayStation Portable, Firmware 3.80, the PSP has earned a few impressive extras; the most talked about addition though, has to be the new internet radio feature.

Supported by Shoutcast, the impressive radio feature allows users to tune into hundreds of different radio stations across dozens of different categories.

From Blues to Bossa Nova, from JPOP to KPOP, and even encompassing talk shows and religious stations, you'd be hard pressed not to find something that interest you.

Yours truly is currently chilling out to German electronica as he writes this, with the PSP sitting comfortably nearby. Playback is perfect, with no skipping or dips in quality.

Sure, the addition has little to nothing to do with video games, but it's still a very functional and enjoyable addition to the PlayStation Portable functionality.

Who knows, maybe the planned VGC podcast will be on there someday?

How to use Internet Radio on PSP:

* Download and install firmware update 3.80.
* Ensure you are in a Wi-Fi environment before attempting use
* With Memory Stick Duo containing firmware update 3.80 inserted into PSP, select Internet Radio icon under Network, and then "About Internet Radio."
* Select "Adding the player to the Memory Stick Duo(TM)" and press the X button.
* When you have added the Internet Radio player, the player icon will appear under the "About Internet Radio" icon.
* Select Internet Radio player icon.
* Choose a genre and select a station.

Hey, thanks for this, man! I hadn't heard about it, but as soon as I pick my
lovely wife up from work, I'll be trying it out. *goes to search couch cushions
for his PSP*

No problem.

I honestly can't get enough of this thing myself. I found a very nice "ambience" music channel, Soma FM. Very relaxing, chillout music. I have it on permanently around my place; makes for a very relaxing atmosphere.

I installed the radio and listened to it (with you, Michael and then alone later) and it's honestly very hot. There's so much variety it's very hard to get bored while flipping through all those channels. I suggest anyone who has a PSP go do this right now. <3
