I love my PSP. That said, it's biggest fault is its miniscule battery life. Whether it's less battery life, or more, it's still way too small regardless. |

I really, really, really don't think they can afford to have an even shorter battery life in their next model. A large amount of complaints about the PSP stem from its lacking in battery life--my DS lasts days while the PSP last barely hours. They should be focusing on increasing the battery life, so people can actually enjoy the machine rather than running over to their DS to occupy their time as the PSP jucies up. After all, if you find yourself intrigued by the DS you might find yourself not as interested in running back to your PSP when it's ready... |

The battery life on my PSP 2000 isn't that bad. I can get a good 5-6 hours on one charge while playing games the whole time. After I have clocked that much time in a handheld though my hands are tired of supporting it so it's a nice time to take a break for me. That being said my DS lite can last a little longer but not too much while playing a DS game the whole time. Everyone's battery memory is different so it's hard to gauge if the problem is the battery or the person's usage. Maybe we will see the return of the extra large battery from Sony again? Not sure why they took them off the market in the first place. |

Six hours is bad. A game running full tilt can cut it down to four hours. Sometimes even less. The DS, running a full game continuously without stopping, has a consistent battery life of around 16 hours to it. Don't be such a fanboy about it. I like the PSP more than the DS as far as games go (in fact, it's probably my favourite format currently), but you'd have to be delusion to think there's a close comparision between the battery life of the two; the battery life of the DS is certainly as hell more than "a bit longer" than the PSP. |

While it's not great, I can't imagine playing a handheld game over 5-6 hours straight. In all practicality I don't expect my handheld devices to run for days without charging when using the power hungry features. I only expect enough to fuel 1 or 2 sessions before having to set down or plug in. I don't really expect the battery on 3000 to be higher, because of the brighter screen. I personally always run my devices on the brightest and best mode I can so that definitely cuts battery. If I put them on the lowest settings I could get a lot more I'm sure. |

I personally run my DS on a lower brightness setting so it will last longer. It honestly seems to last forever sometimes, but thats because I use it more sporadically than constantly. xD

The PSP battery has to support sooo much more than the DS so the comparison is fairly jaded to begin with. The fact that the games require the use of the disk motor to run is a large factor alone without considering the larger processor, wifi, and total screen surface area to boot.

Well, it's quite obvious why the PSP's battery life is signficantly shorter than the DS's--it has to support higher quality. So I guess it's the age old argument of quanity verus quality. Personally, I love the PSP but I know I can't take it on long trips with me and have it last--it just won't. The PSP is superior in graphics, functionality, etc. while the DS just plain can last longer, etc. Of course the battery life of the DS explains why after I fell asleep with it still running, it was still going the next morning. xD |

It isn't when the thing can barely last a long distance trip. It rather defeats the point of the whole "portable gaming" thing. There's very little reason they can't back it with a stronger battery. |

I belive this is why people pack spare batteries or buy bigger ones *laughs* at a cost though. |

It's more due to the UMD needing to spin. Hence why you get amazing battery life if you run a game from the MS instead of the UMD. |

if there is zoo little reason for not upgrading the battery, it doesn't make sense to upgrade other features and neglect the largest complaint. I would say there is a developmental issue inherent in the psp design that makes this an issue. Otherwise it would have been fixed as cheaper developments with such strong selling points would have taken a front seat.
