The weeks before the European PS3 launch weren't the most comfortable for Sony, with numerous problems,
cut-backs and customers concerns overshadowing the console's i touchdowns on these shores. In a big fat "I told you so" on Sony's part though, the console has seen itself land in people's home in record time.
According to
Chart Tracker, the PS3 has seen itself fly off the shelves faster than any other home console system (excluding handhelds) in the UK in the history of our fine industry, selling over 165,000 machines in its first two days alone. The previous record holder was the Wii, with sales figures sitting around 105,000 units in its opening weekend, a tather substantial 50% less than the PS3.
Along with the record breaking sales, two PS3 titles topped the all format charts in the country of tea of crumptets, with Resistance: Fall of Man turning out to be the big selling, and Motorstorm falling comfortably in at #2. Of the top 10 games, games were PS3 titles, managing to outsel new titles such as Brian Lara International Cricket and Virtua Tennis 3.

Well, well, well, Sony must be pretty proud of this success particularly considering how much trouble they were doing before on Western shores. The system is good, I'll grant it that, but until it gets more games I'm not interested. I wonder what made Europeans react so strongly in favor of the machine though... |
