PS3 European Release Date - NOT Confirmed

With the official launch of the PS3 only hours away in Japan, and 17th Nov in the US, recent comment from Phil Harrison may end up souring the dreams of European gamers who were hoping to get their hands on the new Sony console by March 2007.

In an interview planned for this month's issue of the UK Official PlayStation Magazine, Sony Worldwide Studios president Phil Harrison was pressed on the issue of the previously stated March release that for the console.

"Given that all of our previous statements about launching in Europe simultaneously with the US and Japan turned out not to be the case, I would not like to make any definitive statements on that. It’s not my job to comment on hardware supply issues other than to say some very smart people are working very hard to catch up. In fact, the ramp up is already starting to happen in supply and output, just obviously too late for us to have launched in Europe at the same times as the US."

If these words are too be taken at face value, March may only be a hopeful target release date for the PS3 in Europe. Given Sony's rather notorious history when it comes to console delays and supply issues, European gamers may have to be just a little more patient, for Sony's sake...

It's not all that surprising really, and I doubt you'll find many people who actually do find it surprising.
I do wish it would come out sooner rather than later though, because the sooner it's out, the sooner the price will drop to affordable level's.

However, this is great new's for Nintendo who will now be able to sell a lot more Wii's in europe to the disappointed playstation hopeful's.

I agree with Istvan...

This news is something nintendo should jump at. Down here the market is predominately sony however, I know more than a few people who are ditching the ps3 for a wii.

I'm sure Microsoft is pretty chuffed too, seeing how their head start over Sony might potentially last even longer in Europe.

It might be hilarious if the release date would be even later than March. XD During the summer all these shops had grand big posters put up about the PS3 pre-orders and it said in big letters "Coming 17/11/2006!" And now everywhere, but everywhere there are now white papers taped over the date with in black marker "MARCH 2007" written on it instead, so it would certainly be worth a giggle if they'd have to tape ANOTHER paper over there, now with "APRIL" or "MAY 2007" XD

Quoted for Truth.

Could be better this way ... and (I'm not an expert or anything) ... but aren't there the possiblity of bugs or malfunctions in the system, regardless of all the testing it would have gone through. So, Japan and North America will be dealing with all the little problems, and by the time it comes out for Europe ... it should be near perfect ...

Or, that would be the hope, I guess.

That's true, I guess us European's do get an upside to it after all
When we first had the PS2 over here, they were riddled with bug's, so hopefully they can sort them out for us on PS3.

Concidering I keep hearing complaints about buggy PS2s even sold in recent years/months, I wouldn't exactly hold my breath. o: But hey, it never hurts to be hopeful.

The first batch of consoles during it's initial release for nearly every machine always suffers from buggy problem with the machinery - but this is because there's a higher quantity of machines released at launch than is generally produced - as such, it only seems like there are more buggy machine, when the truth is the percentage is usually the same.

Then there's people on the internet who do nothing but complain, and it usually makes the problem seem a lot worse than it actually when, because the percentage of buggy machine is usually less than 2%.

Star makes a good point though. If it is released later, there will hopefully be less of a chance of the machine blowing up in one of our faces... I've no plans to get one myself until the price goes down though.
