New PS3 Enhancements

A few bits of PS3 news have come out that should please some gamers, courtesy of David Reeves, President Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

First of a new 80Gig PS3 will be available in Europe as of August 22nd 2008. With a limited edition 160Gig version following soon after. Which comes with a range of PlayStation Network games, tailored for each region. Whether the larger model will become available after the limited editions have run dry seems likely to be dependent on customer feedback it seems. So here's hoping lots of people want high capacity PS3s cause I sure know I want one.

Second is a long awaited announcement in the form of a keyboard for the PS3 (bout time.)

Wireless Keypad; a mini keyboard attachment that plugs into the Wireless Controller and enables users to enter text more easily. It also features a touchpad mode that will benefit users of the PS3 system's Internet browser.

Sounds very useful and I can guarantee it will see a lot of action on MGO and many other online games not just Home. Personally I will appreciate it when browsing VGC on my PS3 browser.

I like the sound of the wireless keyboard attachment. More powerful machines don't interest me as much--it's the software and the execution that matters to me. However, the idea of a device able to make entering text easier is something I'm very fond of.

Now if only they could get this for the PSP...I *hate* using the browser with that thing.

They are not more powerful machines, they are just given bigger hard drives for saving more stuff on, which with the way things are going is very quickly becoming a must have. Especially for those of is in Europe who only got small ones.

Thats all good... but the HDD has been upgradeable the entire time. It only takes a few minutes and you don't have to be A+ Certified to do it. The instructions come in the manual. But for those who are finicky about opening a console.. even if its just a door with a couple of screws, this will be welcome.

And the PS3 has had support for any USB/Bluetooth keyboard the entire time.. not to mention the finger keyboard that clips on to the controller's USB port.

Dont get me wrong... I love new add-on tech. But besides the fact that there is a new PS3 SKU the rest is stuff that I thought already exsited.
