Whilst many of us patiently wait for the sales information for the PS3 / Wii launches, Media Create have released Japanese hardware sales for the week ending November 12th.
DS Lite - 148,174
PS3 - 81,639
PSP - 19,123
PS2 - 16,157
Xbox 360 - 3,864
GBA SP - 1,320
GB Micro - 1,213
GameCube - 496
DS original - 279
GBA - 12
Xbox - 3
Not only are the launch sales staggeringly low for the PS3, which can be attributed more to a lack of consoles produced as opposed to a lack of interest, but the Nintendo DS Lite has sold a ridiculously large number this month, one of it's highest so far, as nearly as many as every other console combined.
This news won't come as much of a surprise to many gamers in the know, but with the Wii only a few weeks from launch, it will be interesting to see if the native homeland of Nintendo will be as respective towards their new machine as they've so far been to the DS Lite...

My boyfriend's brother actually bought a DS lite and didn't have much use for his old DS. So...now I have one. Yay!

*raises hand* It's not that hard when you concider that 81k consoles pretty much equates every console that was available for sale in Japan. |

That's something that many people have been doing since the DS lite came out. I still find it funny.

This is true. Which is as much a representation of Sony's terrible planning as much as anything else. But those figures don't just include the PS3 and DS, which makes the numbers all the more impressive. |
