E3 2008: Pikmin Wii Confirmed

During a developers round-table session on June 16th by Nintendo, most of the focus was on talking more about the games that were revealed earlier during the conference this Tuesday.

However, near the end of the session, Miyamoto was asked if he was thinking of developing another Pikmin game (which he has interest in doing again through previous interviews). This is the transcript of that conversation...

[7:36] The next questioner asks about Nintendo's commitment to core titles, and asks if Miyamoto is still interested in making another Pikmin, something he's mentioned in the past.

[7:36] Eguchi asks what a "core user" is supposed to be. His own definition is someone who likes games, whatever they like to play. That's who he makes games for, and he says all games regardless of genre have the potential to appeal to the core, and the people who play his games are his core users.

[7:37] Miyamoto stands up and starts to leave the stage, which draws laughs. After sitting back down, he gets to the Pikmin question. He talks about sitting as close as possible to his staffers, some who worked on Zelda and Pikmin. He refers to Eguchi's answer and says "core games" is just as mercurial a term as "core gamers," then says they continue investigating all types of games.

[7:37] "So when it's time to announce such a title, I'll announce it. So please look forward to it."

[7:38] He adds, "We're making Pikmin."

So there it is. Much like the mention of the new Mario and Zelda Wii games, we also have another Pikmin game to add to the list.

Pikmin has always been an interesting oddity, and Miyamoto has always had a cute love for the title, which is quite charming.

I never got into the franchise in the past, though I probably should have. I guess this will be a good a place as any to start.

I actually really like playing the Pikmin games, but yet again, like so many games, all my creatures generally end up being eaten and then me failing miserably lol, but I think the series is awsome and fun to play

It was fun to play, I just got other games.

A part of me cant wait to see the new pikmin, and how the controls will effect it.
