It's only just been announced, but already the fanboys are out in droves, screaming protests over their console's right to exclusive titles; in this case, the new announcement that FFXIII will no longer be a PS3 exclusive.

Passionate / delusional PS3 fans have created a petition online under the misguided belief that their demands are more important than money, and the deluded view that the greater gaming public doesn't deserve to experience the game as much as they do.

The petition is worth the read for the laughs alone.

The PS3 is barely selling in Japan, even if its figures are well below the 360 in the region. They want people to play their games. It makes them more money. Final Fantasy is a global franchise. They're going to appeal to the largest common denominator.

This is to be expected. Most games for the PS3 is released on the XBox and vice versa, with the two almost being equals in hard ware.

On account of Square porting old Final Fantasy's from the NES and SNES to the GBA and DS, it's really no surprise they're trying to expand the Final Fantasy fanbase by including one of their new games on the XBox 360. It's a pretty bold move though.

..But seriously, online petitions are rediculous in general, and this one is NO different.

I'm not a big FF fan as it is.. I am a little weary of any title that is released multi-platform. I feel that the systems have so many differences (tech speaking) that programming takes a big hit in terms of resources.

For instance: Gears of War 2 is (hypothetically) released on the PS3 this fall... I would expect the final version to suffer from the developers staff having to work on BOTH consoles instead of directing time and effort into the 360 version like they should.

All we can do is hope they have put DOUBLE the effort into programing this game for both consoles. I'm not sure how they plan on making the game equal on both. I think both sides will argue which way the developers leaned toward....

Will the game still be upwards of 8.5 gigs? - This is possible on both consoles (Lost Odyssey).

I really hope that the trend of chosing a larger market share doesn't end up degrading games.

I've heard conflicting reports as well. I imagine it would mainly be an NA/Europe deal mainly since that's where the 360 is going strong but they could be nice to the few Xbox 360 owners and have it come out multiplatform there as well.

I didn't say anything on Evrens post because of the obvious reason of you've been trash talking the PS3 recently so of course you would love to make a post concerning members of that community. I would have been a bit more spiteful if I posted that in bitterness. I was using sarcasm.

Sony have already admitted their current aim is "profitability" The first concerns of any company is profit.

I'm not simplifying it down to money. I'm simplifying it down to what the consumer wants, not what I want. The PS3 is a decent machine; but that doesn't change the fact that it's failing miserably. That's not the PS3's fault. That's Sony's fault.

The reason they're doing it is because games aren't selling on the PS3 half as well as they are selling on the 360. This is a fact; the 360 has a much higher attach rate (the average amount of games bought per user) than the PS3.

The reason they're doing it is because exclusives aren't selling on the PS3, because the userbase is too small. Sticking to an exclusive format is what is killing them. Releasing the game on more than one format can only increase the number of sales.

It's not the hardware that makes profit - unless you're Nintendo. It's the software.

If you look up the NPD numbers or look it up on Wikipedia you will find the numbers I was talking about. In total the PS3 is not that far behind. With the PS3 being at 12.8 million and the 360 being at 19 million I don't see much of a gap. Not minding the fact that the PS3 has been outselling the 360 multiple times this year.

The first few games on a system are always bad. Look at the 360 launch. These are about all the exclusives it's had so far. Now the next wave of sequels and new exclusives are coming and a lot of people are getting excited about them. Look outside the box to places like 1up, Kotaku, Game Trailers, and other big gaming communities and see that in reality people do want these games and a lot of them at that. Maybe this year Blu-Ray will mature some more and more people will indulge the HD. This is going to be a big problem for Microsoft who trying to play catch-up in media.

This was honestly expected; we already know that SquareEnix isn't loyal to consoles, its all business and a smart business move. I can understand why strong Sony supporters are upset about this, but Sony will still have their good exclusive games (God of War, Little Big Planet, etc.) and Microsoft will have their good exclusive games. Though this will hurt Sony, they've made it through upsets like this before (GTA4 not console exclusive was a big fuss, but Sony braved through it).

iLold when I saw the announcement because of all the bawwwing. I remember doing some bawwwing myself when Square shelved FFVII for the ultra 64 and developed it for the psx instead.
