E3 2008: MAG - Massive Action Game

Massive Action Game, the imaginatively titled action game of massive proportions, was shown off at E3 today. They played a video showing huge battlefields, bases bombs and vehicles.

The game will support 256 players in online squad-based battles, that will stretch the limits of the PS3's architecture.

They also say that it is not possible on any other console. You know what? With 256 players online in hugs maps full of bombs, bases and vehicles, we can believe that.

I'm admittedly interested in what they have in store for this. I just hope they don't flub it up trying to get something capable with 256 players on it that it would only have 256 players on something boring.

Good luck with that. It's a Sony developed PS3 exclusive.

IT'S CRAP COS IT'S ON A PS3 LOLOLOLOLOL.

On a serious note, The concept is excellent (I mean, 256 players? That's basically a war you've got there) but I don't think this will pan out quite the way they want it to. For 256 players you'll need a relatively large map. If there are less than 100 players in a match, it'll be like a ghost town. Not fun. Unless they have an excellent matchmaking system I don't think this will take off. Look at Frontlines, for example. 64 players, and all the awesomeness (remote controlled death-rain machines, or helicopters) required to make a game fun, but I never hear someone say "hey, do you want to play some Frontlines?".

I was wondering how they were goin to make it work smoothly online. 256 players with varying online connections are going to require an auto-matching feature that weighs connection speeds so that lag isn't as big an issue... but there is almost ALWAYS that one player that causes a game to hang up... or lag.. This is on EVERY system and even PC's. I'm exited to see it in action as it sounds sweeeet. Resistance 2 was cool looking as well.

Well, most people who play battle games online will love this idea as its something I will love, I love playing on war games that involve aircraft, tanks and infantry and such with tons of players in one large map, sadley, very few games ever get the player count right for the game, but, lets hope they do make this game interesting as a 256 player game is no good when no one plays it

In the video I'm pretty sure he said on PS3 AND computers. Well, maybe he said "Playstaion Computer System" or something like that. I don't know. This game looks so sweet though. When I saw this during the press conference at first I was like, not another online FPS, but 256 players is just insane. I've been waiting for a game like this for so long... I just hope it doesn't lag too bad.

Good grief this would have to lag there is no way it couldn't!

So going to get this no matter what just to try it out or it sounds like pure insanity.
