Into the Pixel 07 is an exhibition on the art of the video game. The exhibit aims to highlight 16 works of video game art selected by a pane, from submissions made by artists all over the world, and showcase the artistic talents of the creative minds that bring our favourite hobby to life.
Amongst the selection, Valve have two highlights, "City 17," by Jeremy Bennett, features the distraught urban landscape of Half-Life 2 Episode 2. Team Fortress 2 was depicted by Jeff Ballinger, with the art piece "Farm."
MMORPG's recieved two highlights in the form of "Defeated Dragon" by Daniel Dociu, from Guidw Wars, and "Slave Mines" by Björn Börkur Eiríksson's, depicting the world of EVE Online.
Of a futuristic nature were Rita Linsley's "Speed Architecture: AG Systems - NanoGraff Squares" depicting the streamlined, abstract design of Wipeout Pulse and the world it is set in, whist "View Over the Pixel Ocean" highlights the surreal, emergent landscapes of Introversion Software's Darwinia.
Concept art from Lair, Fable 2, Blacksite: Area 51 and Red Steel, and Dawn of War also populated the Into the Pixel gallery.
Some art focused on the psychedelic, such as Shigechy's "Illustrated Scroll," from Konami's Dewy's Adventure. "Persian Emissaries" conveyed 300: March to Glory, and "The Boy Who Went Forth to Learn what Fear Was" shows off the always imaginative mind of American McGee, and his latest title "American McGee's Grimm".
Of course, not all of the art was intentionally serious or deliberately thought provoking, Florent Sacre's "Rabbids," showed off the humorous side of Ubisoft' Rayman's Raving Rabbids, and Piñata Cascade from Ryan Stevenson, inspired, of course, by Viva Piñata.
Information on the exhibition and the winners of this year's show can be founds
on the Into the Pixel website, if you're interested in finding out more about this unique creative venture.

You know, I was going to reply to each and every one of these, but I really don't feel I have to. This kind of talent and effort is what I aspire to and wish I could do. I love nearly every piec here, and I'm very proud that this industry is having an event like this. |
